CUIDADO DE OIDOS

Las afecciones de los oídos constituyen uno de los motivos más frecuentes de las consultas veterinarias. Al igual que consideramos otros cuidados habituales de nuestras mascotas, como pueden ser la limpieza de boca, los baños, la desparasitación y la vacunación … La limpieza de los oídos es muy importante para evitar patologías que pueden comprometer su capacidad auditiva, el equilibrio, problemas neurológicos, etc.

El oído lo podemos dividir en:

Oído externo: formado por el pabellón auricular y el conducto auditivo externo. Está separado del oído medio por la membrana timpánica. Es en esta región donde normalmente se realizan las limpiezas de oído habituales.

Oído medio: constituido por los huesos: martillo, yunque y estribo. Se pueden afectar en casos de otitis recurrentes, crónicas o debido a perforaciones timpánicas.

Oído interno: formado por cóclea, conductos semicirculares y vestíbulo.

Alteraciones en el oído medio e interno pueden afectar seriamente al equilibrio y la marcha del animal.

Debemos tener en cuenta que existen multitud de razas y como consecuencia, variaciones en la morfología y conformación del oído externo. De ahí que normalmente hablemos de razas predispuestas a las patologías auditivas, como es el caso de los Cocker spaniel, Golden retriever, Bulldog inglés y francés, Setter, etc. En éstos, debido a su conformación, se dificulta la ventilación del oído y la eliminación de sustancias de desecho secretadas por el mismo. La acumulación de detritus, pelos, secreciones ceruminosas, junto con el ambiente húmedo que predomina, crean unas condiciones ideales para la multiplicación bacteriana, fúngica y parasitaria.

Si su mascota presenta dolor al acariciar las orejas, sacudidas de cabeza, pérdida de equilibrio, caminar en círculos, se rascan las orejas…, puede ser indicativo de otitis. En estos casos es imprescindible que acuda a la clínica lo antes posible donde se le realizará una exploración completa, así como pruebas complementarias para llegar a un diagnóstico e instaurar un tratamiento correcto.

La mejor manera de tratar todos estos problemas es prevenir. Para ello, actualmente existen en el mercado multitud de soluciones limpiadoras de los oídos. Muchos contienen sustancias químicas que disuelven el cerumen, así como sustancias antisépticas que evitan que se desarrolle un ambiente favorable para la contaminación de la que hablábamos anteriormente.
